Q. The floor of my shower stall is covered with grouted sliced stones on mesh. The contractor sealed the floor with a "wet-enhancing" sealer about 3 years ago. I've noticed that the lighter stones have become rust-colored. (We have hard water and a water softener.) Is this discoloring a sign that the sealer needs to be reapplied? If so, can I remove this discoloration first before sealing again--using one of your products or a ust remover? Thanks for your help. A. The discoloration is possibly a sign of rusting. Many stones have iron which, when exposed to water, will begin to rust. The rust may be able to be removed but you will need to call a professional restoration contractor to remove it. Resealing the stone will help prevent it from reoccuring. Dr. Fred Fred M. Hueston, PhD Chief Technical Director www.stoneandtilepros.com www.stoneforensics.com |
